Making a Difference One Bowl at a Time

Once again, our generous community has brought creativity and compassion together for a beautiful result! On a lovely fall evening, hundreds of folks attended Empty Bowls Night at the Ute Pass Cultural Center. A great variety of fantastic bowls made by Woodland Park students were sparkling and inviting all night long. Delicious soups made and donated by 17 area restaurants provided a yummy simple supper for all of us, as we came together to take care of Woodland Park families who need a little help.

$5,000 was raised for Community Cupboard, directed by Cathy Blough. She and her volunteers manned the ticket tables, donated bread and pies, set up and cleaned up, and made sure everyone had what they needed. Girl Scout Troop # 1617 wrapped hundreds of spoons with napkins, and carefully wrapped and packed hundreds of bowls. Wal-Mart volunteers served soup and community-conscious high school students set up, sold desserts, took tickets, washed bowls, cleaned up and advertised. Thanks to Arlette Birkes for assistance with glazing and firing bowls.

A special thank you to Paula Levy is sent out for her coordination of community volunteers and restaurants. Paula and Neil managed the soup service and kitchen cleanup as well. Thank you to Costello's in Florissant, Maximillian's, Grandmother's, Swiss Chalet, Tabeguache, Danny's, Joanie's, Mangia Mangia, Smokehouse, Mucky Duck, Wines of Colorado, The Ute Inn, The Harvest Center and JoMama's for their generous soup donations. Thank you to all the Woodland Park K-12 students who made special bowls and gave them away to show how much they care for others. Our young people give from the heart through their art!
