 **Please enter the Middle School at the front doors, check in at the office, and proceed to the library. Parents, you may drop off your students and retrieve them again at 12:30, or you may bring a book and wait in the library.

You will need to eat lunch before you come, but there will be short breaks when you could eat a non-messy snack (bring it with you if you want one.)

Earlier I had scheduled a 1:00 help session for those having trouble with the Lincoln system, but that day the help session will be held at 10:00 amIf you attend the help session, you may use any remaining time to work on your schoolwork. Bring your lunch to eat in my room (707), and I'll take you from there to the MAPs test.

If you are in 11th or 12th grade, or if you already took the test this fall, you do not need to attend.

Hello students and families,

(PARENTS DISCUSS THIS WITH YOUR OLDER STUDENTS-at upper levels it is BOTH parent and student responsibility).

W
elcome to the Woodland Park online school program!

Just a reminder that you are to be keeping your own attendance. See below and email with any questions.

All assignments & assessments should be entered into EdMastery {Little Lincoln Scannits for grades K-4} by the dates listed below for each quarter in order to assure data entered into report cards is as updated and accurate as possible when I pull your grades for Quarter & Semester Progress Reports.

Read Below CAREFULLY - 4th grade is different. Especially note that 100% of courses in 4th through 12th (which are a Part 1 or Part 2 course are to be 100% done by Christmas.)
1st Quarter - October 4th {4-12th grade, should be 50% complete-K-3 should be 25%}
2nd Quarter/Semester - December 13th {4-12th grade, should be 100% complete-K-3 should be 50%}
3rd Quarter - March 7th  {4-12th grade, should be 50% complete-K-3 should be 75%}
4th Quarter/Semester - May 16th (May 9th for Seniors) {K-12th grade should be 100% complete}

    Attendance should also be in by these dates, but may include hours planned for online
 that will be completed
 the following week since
the
actual quarter ends the week after online's end quarter dates. Be sure to keep a log of of your hours and days that you are working. At the end of each quarter we will need to know the following:

______
Number of days that you worked on ONLINE SCHOOL
______
Number of total hours you worked this quarter
           including reading, writing, or doing an assignment for online school
______
Number of days you took off

that are normal
 scheduled
 school days

(I always kept track on a normal calendar, just entering approximate hours on days we worked then adding them up at quarter time and counting the days.)

email this information to Sandy Struble sstruble@wpsdk12.org
{You will receive an email reminding you when it's time to send in the information}
Your school year follows the WPSD calendar {found here:  http://wpsdk12.org/district-information/calendars/2013-2014-district-calendar.html }

Please let me know if you have any questions! If you do not know how to scan in your work (K-4) or turn in assessments & assignments to EdMastery, or if you need help navigating your online school. Please make an appointment to see me immediately.
Thank you,

Pippi Howard

Free tutoring: Children’s Literacy Center

Children’s Literacy Center is a local non-profit organization offering free one-to-one tutoring for students (1st through 6th grade) reading below grade level.  Our mission is to build a life of success through a foundation of literacy…ONE child at a time.

The staff at Children’s Literacy Center recognizes the difficulty of finding more time in your busy day for individualized instruction.  We also know the necessity of utilizing all resources available in improving reading levels.  Our commitment is to make your job easier, while maintaining quality and consistent instruction.  Using the Peak Reader® curriculum, trained tutors target the child’s specific reading needs, and work to improve his or her reading level over a twelve-week period.  Our program is designed to supplement your work in the classroom.  If you have a student who is not currently on an IEP, and needs extra help in reading, refer your student and allow us the opportunity to help them reach their “peak”.

Attached are two forms needed for students to participate in the program.  The Student Referral Form is for you to complete.  TheParent Commitment Form is for the parents to complete.  Once both forms have been submitted, we will contact the parents to set up a tutoring time and location.  Please feel free to fax the hard copy forms to (719) 473-0439.  The forms can also be completed online by going to, www.childrensliteracycenter.org.

We have a tutoring location at Woodland Park Library! Our fall session will begin Tuesday, September 17th.

We are happy to send a representative from our staff to speak to you, or any group in your community, about our Peak Reader® Program. Looking forward to partnering with you in the fight against illiteracy!

Sincerely,

Bree Abel

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

If you want to walk with the 2014 graduating class  and you plan to be eligible, you MUST come to the High School front office and fill out the senior paperwork. They are ordering diplomas for all our hopefuls NOW, and need to include you! BOTH PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND STUDENTS MUST SIGN THE PAPERWORK.

Sometime this fall (I'll try to let you know when) Herff-Jones will be here so you can order caps, gowns, and perhaps class rings. Also, if you need more than seven tickets to the ceremony you will need to contact Mrs. Wallace beginning April 1st. Again, see the information in the front office.

Work hard!
